1. The mutual relation between language and culture
It is one of my persistent preoccupations to analyse how people's language can affect, shape and even change their culture and the way they think. Perhaps many of us take language for granted and consider it something typical and ordinary, but, be it conscious or unconscious, the effect of words, common structures, cootations, syllabic patterns and even collocations is more than a mere way of communicating.
Language can ingrain a cliche or an ethnic inevitable value in people's minds, form the way they treat one another or strangers (e.g. we generally are more friendly towards and feel more comfortable among those who speak a common language with us), and determine our judgement (any specific law is interpretable on a language basis). language makes culture.
2. Ordinary people's life story
Although not anyone has a worth-telling story in life span and even though not anyone's life story is my taste, different personal histories color the society. Any one may have a unique experience to share.
3. The planet is not our heritage
Casting an unbiased glance at the earth, if honest, we may find out where we are and how we have treated our home and neighbours. The more dramatically ridiculous fact is even many conservationists claim the planet as future generations' inheritance, as though we are the only creature to have the right to consume, exploit and waste all the planet. No, my friend, we - all the 7.6 billion humans - are just one out of over 8.7 million species on the earth and may soon disappeare.
